The Ann Arbor Huron High School Choral Program was founded by Ruth E. Datz in 1968, when the school was opened. Over the past 54 years the choirs have upheld the highest standard of excellence under the direction of Ruth Datz, Dr. Richard Ingram, Bonnie Kidd, and Kent Wattleworth. They have received superior ratings on a consistent basis at both district and state choral events and have performed at multiple Michigan School Vocal Music Association, Michigan Youth Arts Festival, and American Choral Directors Association conferences. The Huron Choral program consists of four curricular choirs, an extra-curricular Chamber Choir, and four pop a cappella choirs. The Huron Choirs have been invited to appear at festivals, conferences, and competitions both nationally and internationally, and receive invitations to perform with various organizations each year including the Ann Arbor Symphony, Detroit Chamber Winds and Strings, and professional chamber choir, Sounding Light. The choirs have completed nine international tours and recently traveled to Ireland in March of 2019, performing two full length concerts as well as singing in the massed choir performance in St. Patrick's Cathedral of some choruses from Handel's Messiah in the Dublin International Choral Festival.
